About Writers Out Loud

Writers Out Loud is a new kind of literary venture. We publish (online) audio performance of writers reading their own work.

We’re looking for quality writing and quality reading.

Writers Out Loud publishes original Voice-Only Prose and Poetry as well as Multi-Audio Prose and Poetry which may include background music tracks and other sound elements as part of the creative expression.

Prose may be fiction, or creative non-fiction, which covers a broad array of prose from meditative essays and memoir to literary journalism.

To cover everything else, we also publish work that blurs the boundaries…  whatever those boundaries may be.

Seven minutes max.

A note about the time…  Yes, seven is an arbitrary number but the editor likes the number seven.  You don’t have to use up all the time either.  Shorter is better, or can be if done write.  Poets may feel at a disadvantage, given that poems are generally shorter than prose pieces.  Poets who wish to go the full seven minutes may consider bundling more than one poem.  If you chose to do so, please consider how the pieces work together, as our editorial staff will.

And if you think seven minutes isn’t enough time, try submitting work to DimeStories.  Their time limit is three minutes.  No exceptions.

A note about “multi-audio” entries.  Make sure that if you are using music, that you have the right to use it. The audio clip below is an example of “multi-audio” though it is not exactly a piece of prose narrative but is on hand at the moment.
